Over the years I have had many nicknames - including Tigger, Roadrunner, Tazmanian Devil, Duracell Bunny š° (and those are ones that I know about !). This is because I was working longer hours trying to be available 24/7 in a relentless pursuit of productivity and success in today's fast-paced, hyperconnected world. But I was suffering from the telltale signs of stress and burnout:
š Constant fatigue
š Decreased concentration
š Irritability and mood swings
š Lack of motivation
š Physical symptoms
However a few years ago I was lucky to have an Executive Coach who took me to one side and helped me see I needed to make substantial changes. I took up running and over the years I have developed a passion for ultra distance trail marathons - I love the training more than the races themselves (that is just the icing on the cake).
To recharge my batteriesšthis weekend, I went running along the scenic Offaās Dyke Path in North Wales. A short 17 mile run in some very muddy conditions (as the photo shows). This was my final reccy ahead of a race in 2 weeks time - a 32 mile ultra - and with winter approaching fast, there may be some interesting challenges ā .
Taking time to recharge your batteriesšisn't just about self-care; it's also essential for our professional success, weāre better equipped to:
š Make better decisions
š Improve productivity
š Boost creativity
š Build stronger relationships
Finding time to Power Down and prioritise our mental and physical health is not a luxury; it's an investment in our long-term success. Please take time to be kind to your future self. š
